The Black Church

The Black Church is the largest gothic Church between Vienna and Istanbul and it is a wonderful piece of art, being a must for each tourist.

The name of the famous Church comes from a disaster from 1689 when the Great Fire affected most of the town, including the Church by blackening the walls. The restoration took almost 100 years and of two towers planned to be built, just one was finished.

Also the interior is worth visiting even if the original gothic style was changed during the restorations. You can admire the beautiful stained glass windows, baroque-style balconies, stone columns, walls adorned with fabulous Turkish carpets and the famous organ with 4000 pipes.
